The Virtual Legacy Museum is now live!
Celebrating those who shaped the history of jazz in Indianapolis, Indiana
We are live! The online Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame is a legacy project curated by the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation and it can now be viewed online. This valuable educational tool has been years in the making but now we are very pleased to share this comprehensive documentation of our Indianapolis Jazz Legacy.
While the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame and its mission started in 1998 to recognize, celebrate, and remember those who have made significant long-term contributions to the Indianapolis jazz music scene, the virtual museum website was officially launched on Sunday, January 22, 2023. Our board and staff are excited to share this historic project and get your feedback.
there are over 70 inductees in the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame. Check out this new website to learn all about them. Each inductee has a biography page where you can find a summary of their contributions to the Indianapolis jazz scene, photos, videos, playlists, and more!

Thank You to Our Hall of Fame Project Sponsors
We greatly appreciate the sponsorships by Eskenazi Health, Indy Arts Council, Indiana Arts Commission, Central Indiana Community Foundation, and everyone who made this website possible. These organizations truly care about preserving our jazz legacy through educational resources like this Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame website. It is particularly noteworthy that over the pandemic, Eskenazi Health, one funder of this project was understandably concerned about public gatherings. It is always our goal to work with our partners on meaningful projects that they can truly get behind and feel good about. Thus, this virtual museum was the perfect way for organizations to support the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation in continuing our mission while promoting social distancing. The Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame is a wonderful way for us to all connect to our rich jazz legacy and get a better understanding of those who have shaped Indianapolis jazz history.
Monthly Featured Playlists
One exciting addition to the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation website that incorporates our legacy into the Hall of Fame website is our new featured monthly playlists! Each month, watch for a new playlist that features an Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame artist. You can find playlists on the homepage of both the foundation’s website and the Jazz Hall of Fame website. As we add more playlists, they will also be added to the corresponding inductee’s biography page for future listening. We want everyone to enjoy listening to these great Indianapolis jazz artists. Their music and their legacy live on.
For the first month we launched, we decided to feature Wes Montgomery. It is his 100th year and that’s worth celebrating! Check out this Wes Montgomery playlist curated by the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation. We hope you enjoy listening to this Indianapolis jazz great!
This is Just a Start!
Significant thought, research, and documentation went into this project. A very special thank you goes out to Kati Loreen Taylor, Project Manager for the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation who created the website and gathered all the necessary materials to make the virtual legacy museum a reality. She did a great job at keeping the project rolling forward and translating the requirements into a comprehensive web tool.
As exciting as it is to have launched the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame website, this really is just the beginning. Having the website available is an important step forward. We know, however, that there is so much more that can be added. Our team is already working on the next phases of this project. We hope to integrate an interactive map, location pages, a timeline, and more!
As you take some time to review the Indianapolis Jazz Hall of Fame website, please don’t hesitate to look through the website with a critical eye. We need your feedback and input to make the Hall of Fame even better! If you see anything that might be missing from an inductee profile or have photos you want to include, please reach out. Simply contact us with your suggestions and know that we are working to continuously make improvements to the content and functionality of this website. The goal is for it to be a resource and valuable tool that evolves as we gather more details about our jazz history.
