Aymée Nuviola – Indy Jazz Fest 2024

By Mark Sheldon on Nuvo.net

Aymée Nuviola , a multi-GRAMMY Winner and Latin GRAMMY Award winning singer, musician, songwriter and actress joined the Indy Jazz Fest 2024 lineup with a performance at The Cabaret featuring the music of her native island of Cuba September 19, 2024.

Nuviola is known for developing and melding the sounds of many genres - from jazz to Bossa Nova, Cuba Son, Bolero, Filin and classical for an experience like no other. Known as “La Sonera Del Mundo”, she brings her music to the world as one of Latin music’s tireless champions.

Filin, a Cuban musical movement with its heyday from the 1940s to 1960s, is described as romantic song with jazz influences. While Nuviloa was born much later than when this music was in its height, she was drawn to its influence and has been called “The Voice of El Filin of her generation”. Nuviola is one of the founders of the “Timba” genre and the first female to lead a “Timba” band around the world. She is also a classically trained pianist and composer, having attended the Manuel Samuell Conservatory, Cuba’s top music academy, and we can appreciate this classical training as a foundation of her music.

With Kemuel Roig on piano, Julian Avila on guitar, Jose "Majito" Aguilera on percussion, Mitchell Nonnato on drums, and Samuel Burgos on bass, tonight was a celebration of Latin music at its finest. The audience was up and dancing in the aisles and swaying to the music – as you would expect when the Latin beat is in the house.

A great celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month during Indy Jazz Fest 2024!
