Wes Montgomery Historical Marker Dedication Ceremony

On Wednesday, March 6, 2024 a historical marker was dedicated to legendary Indianapolis jazz guitarist Wes Montgomery on what would have been his 101st birthday. The ceremony featured speakers, a musical dedication performance, and the unveiling of the historical marker. It was a well-attended, momentous occasion! Many gathered at the corner to witness the unveiling of the marker and celebrate Wes Montgomery. He was a musician known for his groundbreaking techniques and signature sound that has left a lasting impact on the world of music.

Historical Marker Location

The Historical Marker is placed near where his home used to be on the near Northeast side of downtown. The location is just north of the Bottleworks Hotel at the corner of 10th & Bellefontaine Street in Indianapolis Indiana. It is located where the Cultural Trail and the Monon meet so many will pass by this location and see this marker honoring a local jazz legend.
